Career Development Centre
At our Career Development Centre, you’ll learn fast and discover how to shape an exciting future for yourself and your clients. You don’t need any experience in wealth or financial management, as we’ll provide you with all the training and support you need to become a qualified Wealth Management Adviser and go on and set up your own successful business.
Our innovative development programme offers a broad mix of mentoring, self-study, practical on the job training and individual and group directed learning. At the end of it all, you’ll gain a CII Diploma in Financial Planning and be ready to provide trusted wealth management advice to your clients.
Adviser development programme
We’ve designed our own in-house training programme to develop the skills of new talent from outside our industry. Leading to professional qualifications, it’s run by our experienced management team who will provide you with tailored coaching - you’ll even have some training sessions with our CEO!
If you’ve got plenty of drive and a positive attitude, you’ll learn about our industry and how to build professional client relationships and market yourself to clients. As well as mentoring, coaching and technical training, you’ll benefit from Continuing Professional Development and group and one-to-one coaching sessions. You’ll also gain client-facing experience and go on rotations with our different teams to gain a good understanding of our business.
What our programme involves
Induction - weeks 1 to 4
Here, we’ll provide you with a great introduction to the financial services industry. Developing your skills working with the teams at Willson Grange and St. James’s Place, you’ll learn more about sales processes, marketing strategies, client/prospect research and client approaches and appointment making.
At the Cirencester headquarters of St. James’s Place, you’ll also meet with senior managers and gain a real insight into a variety of support teams ranging from Marketing and Technical Support to Business Assurance and Investment Management. During these weeks, you’ll also cover the following:
- Supported study programme and exam - LP2 - Financial Services Products &Solutions.
- Gain an appreciation of how wealth management advice is formulated and delivered.
Transition - weeks 5 to 26
After you’ve settled in, you’ll further develop your skills and knowledge. During this stage of your professional development, we will focus upon:
- Exploring some basic marketing opportunities and how to deal with clients and prospective clients.
- Effective communication and client meetings.
- Exploring a wide variety of case studies.
- Becoming familiar with the world of investment management and portfolio construction.
- Gaining your core internal (St. James’s Place) financial planning accreditations.
- Regulatory Compliance.
- R01 (Regulation & Ethics) – study, workshop & exam.
- R05 (Financial Protection) – study, workshop & exam.
Establishment - weeks 27 to 52
This stage will help you increase your skills and knowledge in areas such as business planning, client proposition and new business generation including networking and referral strategies. You’ll further develop your client facing competence and be supported with client visits to hone your advisory and regulatory compliance skills before you work independently.
Your Continuing Professional Development will include exploring increasingly complex and innovative case studies and deepening your familiarity of the St. James’s Place Investment Management Approach.
Your technical competence journey will continue with further formal internal accreditations and also via study, workshops and exam for R03 (Personal Taxation).
Development - years 2 to 5
With our support, you’ll develop your business and review and refine your business plan. You’ll maximise new opportunities, build strong client relationships and generate advocacy. By now, much of your time will be spent client-facing and you’ll be well on the way to building your own business. You’ll complete your CII Diploma via further study, workshops and exams - R02 (Investment Principles & Risk), R04 (Pensions & Retirement Planning) and R06 (Financial Planning Practice). Once you have achieved CII Diploma status, your studies will continue towards Chartered status.
Business owner - year 6+
Assisted by your personal long-term planning strategy and benefiting from your ongoing advice fees, you’ll be able to grow your income, build capital within your business and shape the futures of a growing number of clients.
